Yesterday, Guild House West hosted a group of volunteers from In-Posse. Thanks to their hours of dedicated work, we cleared almost all of the senior plots, cover cropped with white clover, rebuilt a resident’s fallen fence, removed the quackgrass, and took out the last of the pepper plants.
In-Posse is an environmental consulting firm based in Philadelphia. They schedule volunteer time into the work schedule, hoping to help the environment and give back to the community.
Workplace volunteers have been helping take care of Guild House Gardens for several growing seasons. An article by Shari Ilsen on Volunteer Match describes the corporate volunteering phenomenon:
Over the past ten years or so companies have become some of the biggest supporters of volunteering, investing increasingly more money and resources into employee volunteering programs and community engagement projects. Indeed, volunteering has been steadily moving towards the center of many corporations’ corporate social responsibility initiatives.
If your office already schedules volunteer days or your workplace is looking for a way to team-build and give back, consider a day of service at Guild House West in the spring.
